John wrote this song for his second son Sean in 1980.. Possibly wrote with most of Double Fantasy & Milk and Honey in his 2 month holiday in Bermuda in June 1980 The line, "Every day and in every way I am getting better and better" is a self-improvement mantra. It was popularized by a French psychologist named Emile Coue, who made his patients repeat it over and over.
