Charles Alfred “Chief” Anderson A.K.A. the Father of Black Aviation. He was the Chief Flight Instructor for the Tuskegee Airmen, hence his nickname Chief. In 1940, Anderson was recruited by Tuskegee University for the black pilot program. Here had his fateful run-in with the current First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt in March 1941. This is believed to be the groundwork for the Tuskegee Airmen Experiment by the US ARMY. By June 1941 Charles was selected to be the Ground Commander & Flight Instructor for the 99th Pursuit Squadron’s cadets.
