Tuna (or, as they were previously known, "tunny") are wide ranging fish that live in tropical to cold seas. There are approximately 15 classified tuna species in the Thunnini tribe - a name given to them that is derived from the Greek "thynno" and means 'to rush'. This is an apt name for these fish as they are build for efficient swimming. Not only do they have red muscle which gives them endurance, they also have finlets that help cut through the water to give their tails more pushing power as well as groves in their sides into which their pectoral fins can easily settle - making their bodies even more streamlined. Tuna are teardrop shaped and some migrate thousands of miles between breeding and feeding grounds. This has made management of tuna populations a worldwide effort!
