Boston Early Music Festival presents Recorders Beyond Borders. Students from Boston, MA; Brooklyn, NY; Chicago, IL; Montclair, NJ; and Seattle, WA joined to perform "Quen a Omagen" and "Malaika." "Quen a Omagen," a Cantiga de Santa Maria, is a one of a collection of over 400 songs composed during the reign of Alfonso X Castile El Sabio (1221-1284) and often attributed to him. "Malaika" is possibly the most famous of all Swahili love songs in Kenya, Tanzania, and the entire East Africa. This arrangement was recorded by Kenyan group The Jambo Boys, in 1963.
